EUREKA! We’re Redistricting Winners!!!
10/04/2011 – Salt Lake City, UT: At 9:14 p.m. on this date Sanpete County emerged from the Redistricting process with a huge victory in the face of overwhelming odds against the outcome. The final House district map adopted in HB 3001 showed 99% of Sanpete County being united in a single district. The only out-of-county area included in the district is the eastern 1/3rd of Juab County. The new district will give Sanpete a 27,000 to 10,200 population advantage over Juab. Only Axtell is excluded from the new district, with that area remaining in District 70, (Rep. Kay McIff).
Led by Chairman Clark, the journey began over six-months ago and at times seemed a hopeless cause. But after literally hundreds of hours of work and a laberinth of bizarre political twists and turns, this long-sought political goal for Sanpete County has been accomplished. REDISTRICTING PROCESS NEARING END
The 2011 Redistricting Committee wrapped up an ambitious public meeting schedule on Friday, Aug. 19th that included visits to all 29 Utah counties and multiple meetings in more densely populated urban areas. The final meeting was conducted at the Capital Complex Senate Building. The purpose of the meeting was to invite all persons who submitted proposed redistricting maps to appear before the Committee and make the case for the district boundaries they had drawn. Though over 175 maps were ultimately submitted, less than ten map authors showed up to participate. Among the maps adopted by the Committee for further consideration were the Congressional, Utah Senate and Utah House district maps drawn by Chairman Steve Clark. Earlier, Clark’s house districts map was used at one or more county meetings as an example of how maps should be drawn. For more details click on the ‘News’ tab above
